Do we need our christening or naming ceremony photographed?

As an experienced professional photographer in Louth, Lincolnshire and elsewhere, I have had the pleasure of photographing an increasing number of christening and naming ceremonies in recent years. Many of those times, families are looking for precious memories of a special occasion to look back at and reflect on in the years to come. My aim during those occasions is to work in much the same way that I photograph weddings - using my experience to know where to be at what moment to capture the important aspects of the event. Naming ceremonies can take place anywhere and can be lead by anyone. They are just that: a ceremony. If you want to make yours a little different and include ideas in it that others might not be expecting, go for it! There are no rules and I love having the opportunity to capture both something new and fresh, as well as those unexpected moments that no one can plan for or anticipate!

We’re having a party - can you photograph it?

If you have a particular event in mind that you would love to have memories to keep for years to come, do let me know. Whatever your occasion, I will be my experience as a professional occasion photographer in Louth and Lincolnshire to capture the essence of your event, working discreetly and able to adapt quickly to changes in the occasion’s pace and requirements.

Keeping your new addition to the family comfortable

My experience as a professional family photographer in Louth, Lincolnshire and elsewhere has told me that babies and children are most comfortable in their familiar home surroundings. This means that everything you need to keep them entertained and relaxed is easily at hand. I make use of the available space in your home, whether you are looking for a ‘studio’ feel to your images or will pick the spots around the house that offer a good backdrop for the photographs. If you or your baby need to take a few minutes for a feed or to settle that’s no problem at all. By taking our time and working together, we can create beautiful natural images of your little one without the need for unflattering poses or making the lay or sit in a particular way.

Darren is a pleasure to have involved with your special occasions; he asked what sort of photos we wanted - posed or natural - and was very accommodating. He fitted in around us and did his thing without you even knowing he was there.

What do I get asked the most?

  • Depending on whether you are looking for coverage of a christening or naming ceremony, a home photo session or other occasion photography the length of coverage will be discussed when you contact me. As a guide, a home photo session usually lasts around one to one-and-a-half hours.

Following christening or naming ceremony coverage or other event, you will receive your finished images to download. After a home session, you will be able to view your images in your online gallery. Once you have selected your favourite images from the session, they will be fully edited and you will be able to download them. We can arrange to get them printed if you wish.

  • During your session I will capture many images. After christening or naming ceremony photography or other occasion, you will receive many images from your event that tell the story of the occasion in much the same way as I approach wedding photography.

After a home photo session, you will be able to view the unedited proofs of the images and select your favourite 25 images which will be edited, which you can them download in high resolution from your private password-protected gallery on to your devices. All of the images can be edited in both colour and also in black and white. If you would like additional images, I can give you a current price for those as well as a quote should you want canvases, wall art or prints.

  • A home photo session will require plenty of open space in a room in your home. Depending on the style of images you are looking for, I may need to bring additional equipment with me. In addition, I will require probably more space that you might envisage in order to capture your images. If you aren’t sure whether a room would be suitable, please do ask when you contact me to arrange your home photo session.

  • Generally, up to six people is a good number but for a home photoshoot this will also be dictated by the amount of space available. If you would like certain pairs or groupings concentrated on, please let me know beforehand. I always aim to create compositions that include all of the possible permutations in a group during the course of the photoshoot.

If you have young children or ones with short attention spans, having someone else around that can provide a source of entertainment whilst others are having their photos taken can be extremely useful.

  • For a home photo session, you can be as formal or informal as you wish. I would always suggest something slightly dressy for a photo session but you can wear anything that you are both comfortable in and that is also practical. The bottom line is wear what you feel good in.

Similar colour schemes always work well - coordinating styles with each other and complimentary colour helps your images be cohesive and stand the test of time. I would suggest avoiding bold text or images, as these usually don’t date well.

  • My diary soon fills up so it is always a good idea to make arrangements early for your christening or naming coverage or home photo session, especially if you have a certain date or time of year in mind.

If you require a weekend or need to fit in with work commitments, please do let me know at the earliest opportunity so that I can check my availability for you.

  • My approach for an home photo session is simple: images of you all that are comfortable, genuine and fun. The key to that - just be yourselves, enjoy each other’s company and, to a certain degree, pretend I’m not even there!

I will tell you where to stand or sit, as well as give advice on how to pose so that your images are natural. I will shoot both posed and candid images throughout your session and will give you clear directions to make your session successful and enjoyable.

  • Absolutely! In these days of social media, spotting others' photos and wondering whether an idea might work as part of your photo session is inevitable. I love to try new ideas and am always happy to give them a try.

If there is something that you would especially like to give a go, let me know before your session wherever possible. That way I can plan ahead in case it requires me to bring along an extra piece of gear or, at least, some consideration about how to achieve the desired result.

Pleas be aware that with home sessions for babies, I do not pose your baby. If there is something in particular that you would like feel free to ask when you contact me.

  • Apart from a sense of humour and a willingness to have fun, you shouldn't need anything else! If youngsters are involved in the photoshoot, it's a good idea to bring along a few favourite toys. These will keep them amused and provide something else to photograph them being occupied with.

  • Brilliant, let’s check our diaries! First, please complete the enquiry form on this page with as much information as you can and I will get back to you as soon as possible so that we can get your christening or naming ceremony coverage or home photo session arranged. I’m already looking forward to it!

Let’s get you in the diary!
